  • Parents COVID Testing Update

    Tue 04 May 2021

    PARENT UPDATE - COVID TESTING

The Welsh Government are making Covid-19 testing available to people with a wider range of symptoms such as fatigue, muscle ache or pain, a sore throat, a headache, a runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. This is because some variants and young children do not display the classic three Covid-19 symptoms initially.

The request therefore is for people (including children) to get a test if they are feeling unwell in any way. Further detail on how to apply for a test is provided at https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test or simply call the free number 119 between the hours of 7am to 11pm.

Individuals and their households who take a test because of these other wider symptoms are not required to isolate while they await their test result. This includes learners, who can continue to attend their school or setting while they await a test result.

If individuals then receive a positive Covid-19 result, they and their household must then isolate. Households must also isolate if anyone develops any of the three classic Covid-19 symptoms while waiting for a test result taken on wider symptoms to come back.

Clearly, children and adults with diarrhoea and/or vomiting should not attend their school/setting until they are symptom-free for 48 hours, even if their Covid-19 test result is negative.

The FAQs on the Council’s website have been updated to reflect this latest advice – www.rctcbc.gov.uk/schoolfaqs

  • Latest Summary Regarding Return to School

    Fri 12 Feb 2021

Please see information regarding the latest Welsh Government announcement about pupils returning to school:

    Dear Parent/Carer,

The Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams, has announced today that the youngest learners in primary schools will return to school following the half-term break. A summary of arrangements are as follows:

    • All Foundation Phase learners will return to school during the week beginning Monday 22nd February. There will be some local flexibility for schools, leading to a full return of this phase by Friday 26th February.

    • Existing arrangements for Hub provision for vulnerable learners and critical workers in KS2 will continue after the half-term break.

    • There are no plans for KS2 to return to school at the moment but this is under regular review.

    • KS2 therefore will continue to receive home online blended learning until a further announcement is made when they can return to school.

    • A note from the Chief Medical Officer’s office confirms that the return of Foundation Phase children is consistent with and supported by the current available medical evidence.

    • Public Health Wales have made specific recommendations around strengthening key infection prevention and control measures in schools. Further operational guidance and clarity on these matters are expected shortly.

Further information will follow in due course.

Thank you for your continued support,
    Stay safe,
    Mr. Jewitt
